Force Field Diagrams
Force fields can be represented in diagrams with field lines (Direction of the field).
Distance between field lines = strength of the force exerted by the field
Similarities - Gravitational And Electric Fields
- Forces both follow an inverse-square law
- Use fields to be represented
- Both have equipotential surfaces
Differences - Gravitational and electric fields
In gravitational fields, the force exerted = Always attractive
In electric fields, the force exerted = can be repulsive or attractive
Electric force acts on charge, while gravitational force acts on mass
Newtons law of gravitation
Shows that magnitude of the gravitational force between 2 masses is directly proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance in between them.
